Wallpaper – Shades of Blue

Source: Home Depot

If you do not have any wallpaper in your house – this post is for you! My favorite areas for wallpaper are the powder room, laundry room, entry, dining room, and kids’ bedrooms. These are all areas of your house where you do not spend a sustained amount of time and wallpaper creates a memorable experience without causing too much sensory overload.

Start by considering the color that you want to bring into a space and start browsing – today I am sharing some of my favorite blue wallpapers which is a great place to start. Other than paint, there is no quicker way to transform your space. Just click the image for the source if you see something you love!

Moody and bold – this is the direction I went in my bathroom and laundry with the clouds and birds wallpaper below and I could not be happier. Check it out HERE. Honestly, it sounds a bit weird but every time I am in one of those rooms I get a boost of happiness.

Florals or new botanicals – there are so many bold options here that do not scream grandma. The trick is to look for a large-scale print or pair it with fun, funky, color accents that draw out one of the colors in the wallpaper. This is a great way to bring nature into your home.

Geometric patterns – Geometric patterns are a great option if you have a more modern, minimal style but they are also the chameleon of wallpaper and work equally well with transitional and boho styles as well. They generally have straight lines, symmetry and are often monotone. I really love these for entryways.

Whimsical animal prints – Animal prints are great at adding depth to a small room especially a powder room, and they are also great for kids rooms. It is shocking how much bigger my powder room feels even though the paper I used is a deep navy with red accents. These may be my favorite wallpapers of all – note my bathroom wallpaper HERE

While I am generally opposed to accent walls, it is fine to break the rule when it comes to wallpaper unless it is a small room in which case you need to commit 100%. If you do a feature wall, make sure to connect the other walls to the wallpaper either through painting them a color featured in the wallpaper or hanging artwork that ties in the color pallet.

Final note, I strongly recommend hiring a professional for the install because poorly hung wallpaper is just BAD. Also, I tried to peel and stick and it did not stick well and I had to resort to using a tacky spray on the back to keep it up. It was so frustrating to come home to piles of wallpaper on the floor that I had spent hours installing in my laundry room in my old house and I just could not rally to put it back up so into the trash it went.

What do you think? If you love the idea but none of these are “the one” reach out and let me help you find a match!
