Thomas Bina – Furniture Design Master

When I am looking for furniture, some of my best finds are when I know I want a statement piece but do not have a clear view of what it looks like except that I will know it when I see it. That is what happened when I found my favorite furniture piece for my new house, my entry console table.

I knew that I wanted something wood and modern, but beyond that, the details were fuzzy. After hours of searching and lots of pinning, I found the one by Thomas Bina.

Thomas Bina is a Los Angeles furniture designer known for mixing rough-hewn textures with luxe finishes and sleek silhouettes. His style focuses on clean lines and creative angles reference a style of his own with elements of mid-century, rustic lodge, and industrial loft which pieces that can fit in with nearly any design style.

Many of his pieces are also eco-conscious as Bina says, “My passion is sourcing hard-to-find materials” and he traveled to Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay to find reclaimed woods I have never heard of like louro preto, angelim, jatoba, roxinho which “gives me an amazing amount of creative ideas.” Just check out those how those chairs below add interest to a more traditional design and that dining table and chairs (as well as pretty much everything else) are perfection for my pretend home in Park City, UT.

Of course, he also has an amazing collection with Restoration Hardware and was instrumental of the launch of the Restoration Hardware Modern brand. The Restoration Hardware line features wood and metal or concrete and has me drooling.

While the cost reflects the quality, he has many pieces at various resellers at many price points and a single piece makes a real statement. Here are a few of my favorites, but if you like the vibe, you should check out many more Thomas Bina designs at Sounder Living or Zin Home.
