Today I am channeling my inner teenage girl but with better taste than the pink butterfly and rainbow bedspread that I actually had as a teenage girl. Design for a teen girl’s room is more of a stretch than the teen boy’s room because I have 2 boys, and because I am a tom-boy. That being said, all three looks have some pink with Option 1 even including a pink rug and Option 3 a pink bed both balanced with black and white more modern look.
The basic function should support study, sleep, and social for girls. The goal is still to create a special corner of the world where she can escape it all. The room should include a bed, chair, desk, and dresser.
A few tips/tricks to consider:
- Add drawers or cubbies at the bottom of the closet to save space or under the bed;
- Tall dressers take less floor space but store more – I cheated and used the same one for both looks below because it is soooo good;
- Place the desk or dresser on one side of the bed rather than a nightstand to save space;
- Splurge on a good mattress but save on bed frame and desk – lots of good lower-priced options;
- Involve your daughter in the process, she will likely have more input and a teen boy so these will help you start the conversation and have a jumping-off point;
- Look for fun accessories such as flowers for the nightstand, jewelry holder, and memo board where she can post inspiration pictures;
- Install LED lights – according to my son these are as popular with the girls as the boys and I teen neighbor always has LED glow coming from her window.

Most of the items in these options can mix and match with the other look. Which is your favorite? Do you have a teen daughter and if so, which is her favorite? I tried to push myself to be the more girly version of myself, did it work or is there too much pink? I think #3 is my favorite (even with the pink bed!) because of the black which grounds the sweetness some but my teen-self would have loved any of these!
