The new Shades of Light catalog just came and believe me, it should be your first stop if you are looking for new lighting. For the next stop, I highly recommend Restoration Hardware. New lighting is a great way to increase your enjoyment and ultimately the resale price of your home and there are lots of very affordable options available. Check out other lighting posts if you missed them: Table Lamps, Master Bedroom, and Flush Mount.
Today, I am featuring sconces which are generally used in bathrooms and hallways. I am shopping for the new bathroom that will be part of the Office 2.0 remodel and you can read about The Plans for that with much more to come.
In a bathroom, you generally want the sconces on the sides of the mirror at around 60-65” from the floor to illuminate your face. My bathroom will have 2 sinks and I am trying to decide whether to go with 4 sconces or 3 as shown below – what do you think?

Sconces come in many styles from modern to traditional with many finishes and you are sure to find something that you love. Generally, it is a good idea to match the sconce finish (i.e. brass, black, bronze) to the mirror surround, but mixed metals are really popular right now and I am dreaming about black faucets, gold mirror surrounds, and mixed metal sconces to tie it all together. And yes, I may be more than slightly obsessed with round fixtured right now!
After you see the options below, I expect that you will be ready to say bye-bye to builder-grade! Just click for more details if you see something you like – most of these come in multiple finishes. If you do not see THE ONE below, head over to Shades of Light for more inspiration.
