I have been living with a dirty rug in front of the kitchen sink for nearly six months. This is a BIG problem because the rug is only six months old. After attacking it with the Hoover carpet cleaner which has been instrumental in saving many rugs from Odin’s mishaps, it still looks dirty. Shameless Odin picture but he does really make a great rug model and especially a Ruggable rug, rug model, right?
In fairness, I cannot blame him for this one that is just in a high traffic area where it is constantly getting dripped on from the sink and dishwasher and suffers some large and small meal prep mishaps.
I saw a company called Ruggable about a year ago who was advertising rugs you could wash at home in your clothes washer which sounded like some kind of voodoo magic, but they did not have many designs; and while I like form over function, there just was not one that I could love. Fast forward to now, WOW, they have so many options that look great and are designed for easy cleaning – sign me up.

Ruggable rugs come in two pieces – a lightweight, removable rug cover that fits inside the washing machine and a soft, nonslip Rug Pad that keeps the cover in place. They have lots of styles that will work with any design and recently released some fun new designs from Star Wars and Mickey Mouse that would be great for kids’ rooms and larger 9×12’ sizes.

Most of the rugs are a low pile chenille which feels soft, but they have also introduced some plush rugs that are high pile. I probably would not use a Ruggable rug in the family room where we spend a considerable amount of time on the floor, but I think that would work great for most other spaces where the ability to wash a rug would be beneficial. In addition to high traffic areas and solving for pet mistakes, I bet these are great for people with allergies.

The rugs come with a classic Ruggable Pad or you can upgrade to a Cushioned Ruggable Pad. I paid about $50 to upgrade my runner, a bit more for larger rugs, to the cushioned pad and am happy I did as I like the cushy feel under foot while washing dishes or making meals. You should go with the classic pad if it will sit under a doorway or have rolling furniture on top.
While I have not washed the rug yet, I gave it the scrub test which it passed with flying colors when I dripped teriyaki sauce on it. That would not have been the case with the wool rug. I will certainly come back with an update after a few washes.

Ruggable rugs ship free and the returns policy is good with any item eligible for a full refund (minus a $25 processing fee) or exchanged within 30 days of the delivery date and my rug arrived in just two weeks even though they are made to order.
Below are some of my favorites which tend toward more modern black and white and/or geometric design and of course, there are a few teal ones now that it is my new favorite color and I have started adding accessories from HERE. They have many more traditional rugs so be sure to shop their website if you are interested and you do not seem one you love below. I am going to design a kids room with one of the Star Wars rugs pronto. If you need help deciding on a size, check out this post HERE.
