Phenomenal Plants – Real and Faux

Source: Target

Something that almost every house needs are more lamps and plants. I previously shared a round-up of my favorite floor lamps HERE, table lamps HERE, and faux some plants HERE, but today, I have plants on my brain because Hilton Carter just launched an amazing line with Target and I love them all.

While I prefer real, most of my plants are faux because many of the places that I want them do not get enough light. As you can see from some of my plants and Hilton Carter’s line at Target, there are some great faux plants so do not let lack of light or green thumb hold your back.

  1. Calathea – Faux

This little (medium, actually) beauty is my latest purchase. I saw this plant on Instagram and knew that it would look great in this planter that I purchased in preparation for the CA move but has been sitting in waiting until now. I tried it with a couple of other plants which were too wide for the area which gets no light but this one is just right and at under $50 Target it is a bargain. If you are lucky enough to have a place with some light, these can tolerate low light, and they are pet friendly which is surprisingly uncommon.

  1. Fiddle Leaf Fig – Real

This beauty was only $99 at Home Depot – can you believe it! I had to leave a couple of fiddle leaf fig trees at my old house in WA because you are not allowed to move plants into CA. I may have squealed a bit when I saw this and promptly put it into my cart and stuffed it into the back of my SUV. I had my previous fiddle leaf figs for 7+ years and with some indirect sunlight and weekly watering, they grow like weeds. I recommend that you case a few Home Depot’s as some have better selections than others.

  1. Orchid – real

You cannot go wrong with Orchids – I love that they have beautiful flowers and last for months. It is way too depressing for me to watch cut flowers slowly die over just a weeks-time. You will find the healthiest plants and best deals at Home Depot – these beauties are usually only around $20 and with a weekly watering they have always lasted months for me – select the ones that only have about half of the buds flowering to prolong the life. I have never been successful in getting these to rebloom so sadly I throw them away and replace them as needed.

  1. Snake Plant – faux

I have had real snake plants and they are very hardy and do well in very low light so this might be a good one for you to take a chance on. I purchased this one for an area that gets no light so went faux but then ended up moving it to a location where real would have worked. These are always in stock at Home Depot (are you sensing a pattern) and very affordable.

  1. Baby Leaf Tree – faux

This one is a great tree to throw in a dark and empty corner to soften the room and bring a bit of (faux) life and height to a space. You will need to purchase a decorative basket or pot because it comes in an ugly black put but I highly recommend it and Wayfair as a great place to find faux plants and trees since they have user reviews.

  1. Monstera – faux

I became obsessed with this plant on my walks with the dog through the neighborhood where there are some towering specimens. It is a very architectural plant and I splurged (>$200) because the plan was for it to live in the new office addition. After having it in the dining room the past few months, I think it has found its permanent home. If you have the budget to splurge, you really cannot go wrong with the selection at West Elm.

  1. Xelo Kawai Palm Tree – faux

This one is for the Office instead of the Monstera above that found a permanent home in the dining room. I ordered it a month ago and it has around a 6 week lead time so hopefully, I will love it. I returned one from Wayfair and am having some second thoughts since this is taking so long.

8. Hilton Carter @ Target

Here are some of my favorites from Hilton Carter @ Target but you should check them all out. They are an amazing value and have fantastic vases saving you from additional cost and fuss. These are going to sell out so if you see something you like, act fast!
