If you are looking for a great way to treat yourself for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or just because, I highly recommend linen sheets. I have been sleeping on linen sheets for a couple of years and I am always shocked at how much I miss them even when I sleep on high-quality cotton sheets. I know, I know, the price seems high at $200ish for King size linen sheet sets, but let me share a few reasons that you should strongly consider getting some.
Linen is:
- Anti-allergic making it great for people with sensitive skin or allergies.
- Highly breathable – it is pure magic how linen sheets keep you warm in the winter and cool in hot weather.
- Absorbant – it can absorb as much as 20% of its weight in moisture before feeling wet – I admit this sounds a bit gross but it really is important to have sheets that can wick moisture away from your body to keep your skin feeling fresh and cool.
- Luxurious – the texture has a wonderful softness which makes the bedding feel amazing to the touch and they get even softer with each wash. Linen bedding has a creased, worn-in feel which creates an interesting lux look.
- Durable – linen is twice as durable as cotton and can last for years helping to bring down the cost-per-use.
- Environmental friendly – all the different parts of the flax plant are used to produce linen and the seeds are used to make linseed oil for floor coverings and paint. Flax also requires no irrigation and is biodegradable and is a renewable resource.
So, if you are convinced, here are a few of my linen favorites!

Best overall linen sheets: Parachute ($189 King Set)
Parachute linens are made in a family-owned factory in Portugal and the linens are roomy but not baggy. Be prepared for lots of wrinkles but somehow they feel luxurious and flatten out somewhat when the bed is made. Parachute provides an a la carte shopping experience with the site claiming that 40% of Americans sleep without a top sheet – I cannot imagine this but have to say my youngest son is in this category so I have some experience.

Runner-up: Citizenry ($275 King Set)
Citizenry sheets are French flax also woven in a family-run mill in Portugal and produced in a fair trade environment. They are a sturdier, thicker option than some which is something that I prefer personally. The sheets come in 10 muted colors although I always prefer white for bedding. They do not come in twin sizes so if you were planning to treat your kids, this is not the brand for that. They are a bit roomier than some and can bag a bit on the side of the bed which means they take a bit more tucking which is not my favorite activity.

Softest linen sheets: Brooklinen ($269 King Set)
Brooklinen sheets are buttery soft and the ones that you should go with if you want sheets that feel already broken in. You cannot buy individual sheets and they do not come in twin sizes. They provide no-hassle returns for 365 days which I can confirm is a very easy process with the sheets going to charity. While I loved the feed of these sheets, ultimately the less precise fit of the fitted sheet started to bag in the missile after six months and I returned them for a full refund. If softness from the get-go is your top priority, these may be the sheets for you.

Best budget-friendly linen sheets: Amazon Simple&Opulence ($144 King Set) sheets were less than half the investment of many of the sheets above and they are rated 4.5 stars with customers stating that they did not feel like a compromise. They cut back on the fancy packaging which frankly, who really needs this anyway, and if the bed more snugly than most of the other sets which frankly I think is a good thing. They come in seven colors (two whites, four grays, and a purple) but you must order the full set. I recommend these if you are not sure whether you will like linen sheets although Brooklinen is also a great option to test drive linen with their 365-day return policy.
