Leather Chairs for Lounging

When I say leather, the first thing you may think of is biker jackets, bachelor pads, or too-tight pants. What you should be thinking about is the perfect handbag or shoes that go with everything. Leather mixes well with most colors and décor styles and adds character, warmth, and an earthy vibe to any space.

A good leather chair is the perfect piece of furniture to add to your home when you want to add a leather touch without going too rustic – please, please, please avoid purchasing complete leather sets. Here are a few additional tips to keep in mind when shopping followed by some of my favorite leather chairs.

  1. Color. Cognac is my favorite color for leather. It is light enough to match with any color without bringing too much darkness into a room.

  1. Use. Will the chair get daily use? If so, pick something with both seat and back cushions – generally a more traditional leather armchair will be the most comfortable. A leather butterfly chair is perfect for a space where you may need to be able to move things around since it will be light. Leather is very family-friendly since it is easy to clean and tends to get better with use.

  1. Style. Leather goes with almost any style and chairs come in many different profiles that mix well with traditional, mid-century modern, organic modern, and boho style. One of my personal favorites is the leather safari chair which can be padded or more of a sling design, and generally has a wooden frame that will bring additional warmth to the space.

  1. Texture. Many leather chairs feature handwoven textures which can really add interest and balance in a space filled with larger furniture such as a sectional. This type of chair is great for mid-century modern style and blends well with traditional or boho.

  1. Placement. Two leather accent chairs look great opposite a sofa in a room rather than just a matching sofa. The chairs allow the room to breathe a bit and help you avoid a too matchy, matchy look. Smaller leather chairs are also great flanking a fireplace where you may not have room for larger, more traditional armchairs.
