In addition to the ceramic bells I shared recently, there has been another change in my entry – a BIG change. I added a statement chandelier where there was nothing before and WOW has it made a difference! The entry to your home makes the first impression and more importantly, if you choose correctly it can bring a smile to your face every time you see it – or maybe that is just me because I am (weirdly?) obsessed with lighting.
I recommend you talk a look at your entry lighting situation. If it is the same light that was there when you moved in, or even worse, it was there when the house was built, it is probably time for a change. Even if your house is new, most spec builders do not invest much in the lighting. Look what a difference a simple light swap made below!

In my case, the entry only had can lights so frankly, almost any light would have been an upgrade. I spent many hours proactively looking for “the one” when I accidentally stumbled on it when looking up some pendant lights from the same brand – crazy how that happens sometimes. I was concerned that the install was going to create a bunch of other drywall and paint issues because we converted a can light to the chandelier and needed a new, separate switch to control the light. Enter remote light switches to the rescue – it looks like a regular switch but there is no wiring, the switch sends a signal to a receiver that is somewhere in the attic and the light magically turns on. This type of solution can work with any light.
Anyway, drum roll please…here it is in all its glory with a before showing a plain can light and the magnificent after! I do not think the photograph does it justice – I am so happy I waited for the one. Shout out to the amazing electricians in the first photo!

Of course, this was the one for my house but you will likely need something different unless your home is modern with a two-story entry in which case I say, “go ahead” and steal my chandelier choice.
Chandeliers can add a bold look to your entryway and are generally the right choice if you have a 2-level entry. Pendants are also a great option and often work better in smaller spaces. To calculate the size you need, you can use this formula that many lighting experts use: add the length and the width of the entry’s dimensions and convert it to inches. For example, if your foyer is 15’ x 18’ you get 33’ after adding the two figures and you would want to get a fixture that is around 33 inches wide. Here are a few examples of other great entries.
