It has been about a month since the demo started on Office 2.0 and the framing was just completed. I am shocked and impressed at how quickly it went up (about 3 weeks) and very surprised at the number of nails that were used. This thing is going to be here in a century. Below are a few time lapse pictures to show how things progressed.
If you are thinking about a remodel, I highly recommend doing something that is outside the main of your house. Having lived through a light kitchen remodel and a master bathroom gut, this is by far the easiest. The workers are outside, the noise is manageable and there is no mess inside though I think there are at least 1,000 loose nails embedded in the dirt around the structure.
At some point, they are going to cut into the house to connect the office via the foyer where I was wanting to hang the mirror I fell in love with. Ultimately, I will go with a lower priced option as I think the first one might just be an infatuation and I need something with staying power.
Things are going to slow down now because the doors and windows are still 6 weeks out and next steps involve such exciting things as foundation flashing and wrapping the structure to weatherproof. I am looking forward to the more exciting parts such as flooring and bathroom finishes.
In the meantime, you can find me over here ordering rug and furniture samples and reading my landscaping books on drought resistant gardens. I have been on a significant quest to find the perfect desk for my husband who has very exacting requirements – more on that soon! For now, enjoy a few pictures that show the current progress and be sure to share your feedback on the bathroom finishes!
