With the weather warming up and more chance to entertain with the vaccine rollout moving quickly, now is a great time to make sure your outdoor space is ready to become your living space. One of the most important ways to make this possible is to make sure that you have some fantastic outdoor seating.
When we purchased our house, part of the negotiation included having the outdoor furniture included This was a mixed blessing. Pro, we did not have any furniture that we were bringing from WA, so we were able to start enjoying the outdoors which includes a pool (I know, don’t hate) right away which was key since it was July, and the furniture is very high quality and well-suited to the space. Con, the furniture is not necessarily what I would have selected, and it is all a matching set of barstools, lounge, dining table and chairs, and lounge chairs.
This brings me to one of my first points, if possible, avoid the matchy, matchy sets. One of the best ways to make your yard feel like an extension of your home is to avoid the matchy, matchy sets. A couple of matching chairs is good but then it is nice to mix it up a bit with the sofa and dining furniture if you have room for these different zones. Thinking about mixing up the textures (i.e., woven and metal) but staying in the same color family to create a cohesive look. Also, look for pieces that feel like a natural extension of your indoor style (i.e., modern, mid-century, boho, etc.)

The new office addition we are building will have a small patio in the front courtyard area. This gave me the chance to shop outdoor furniture with the mission being a great chair and side table that my husband can use as an outside extension of the Office. As always, the hunt turned obsessive, and I unearthed way more chairs than any normal person should.
Outdoor furniture has come a long way from the colored strappy aluminum chairs or rustic teak loungers of my youth – if you remember these, we are probably in the same age bracket. I was also impressed with the design and comfort reviews of the lower-priced chairs and surprised to see how many chairs come in a two-chair set which was not great for me since we only have room for one.

When shopping chairs, make sure you look at heights to make sure you know whether you are getting a low lounge chair (~29” height) or a more traditional height chair (~31-33” height). Also, we selected a chair without arms to make sure that there was enough room to use a laptop without having your elbows bumping into them.
Keep in mind that lots of outdoor furniture sells out early so without further ado, here are some of my favorite outdoor chairs by various price points. Note if there are two chairs in the set, you can get them BOTH for <$500 except for the last set in the <$500 bracket where the chairs are $350 each.
