Sometimes a design image captures my vision so completely that I save it to a Pinterest board called Dream Home. Ostensibly, this will provide a wealth of resources when I get to design my dream house from the ground up. However, until then, I use these pictures as inspiration for my design.
I recently ran across the great room above designed by Amy Storm and in a flash, my finger hit the Instagram follow button (amystormandco) and I added this one to my dream home Pinterest board. As I scanned (stalked) her Instagram further, I realized that most of her designs would be right at home in my Pinterest Dream Home board. She usually adds a touch of black which I love as it adds so much depth. Below are more of her designs with a few musings on why I love them so much!
I have already shared my love of two-toned fixtures HERE, but I also really love cabinetry with multiple finishes. This wood center of this cabinet and the gold hardware really adds a warmth that ties in with the ceiling beams that would be missing if the entire cabinet was black.
Speaking of black, what do you think about black walls? I love them! After I install the crazy wallpaper in out powder room bathroom (see HERE and HERE), my next mission is to convince my husband that we should paint the dining room black. It adds such a cozy feeling when balanced with lighter furnishings such as the white soft and rug below or white banquette. It is always important to add a bit of black in the room to keep the balance right like the swivel chairs below or the rug under the banquette. Check out my post on moody colors HERE for some of my favorite blacks.
I may need to go back and add this exterior to my dream house Pinterest board. I love that it is a blend of craftsman, modern, and farmhouse that will be timeless. I am available for a backyard BBQ here anytime and while that sofa is definitely more than $500, I have some great budget-friendly <$500 outdoor sofas you may want to check out HERE.
Shelf stying perfection here. Love the backward-facing books which is a great way to unify but still add texture. Check out my post HERE if you want some tips for shelf styling or just links to some great accessories.
The black doors flanking the entry to this room really provide a beautiful entry and the colors in the rug connect the wall color and the doors together in such a subtle and magical way – of course the kids are pretty darn adorable also.
I am a sucker for a patterned tile as I shared HERE and this fireplace is perfect. I love the rustic wood, modern light fixtures, and of course, a healthy dose of black.
I hope you have enjoyed this inspiration and maybe even found something to add to your Pinterest dream home board or even better, find a way to incorporate some of this design into your current home!
