I have never decorated for Valentine’s Day before and to be honest, it is a holiday that I consider mostly a fun day for kids to exchange Valentines at school. Watching live flowers slowly die is a bit like torture for me. However, with my Christmas decorations down, my bowl needing filling, and the front door felt naked without the wreath, so I started investigating some options.
YIKES was my initial thought, most Valentines décor is all so garish and quite tacky. I am looking for a bit of the less is more with maybe a few things in the entry and just a touch of pink which is a color that I am really starting to like after a many years hate relationship. Here is an example of some of the décor that almost had me ending my Valentine’s décor quest. Just in case you are skim reading, THESE ARE EXAMPLES OF BAD VALENTINE’S DECOR.
Then, slowly, after much digging, I started finding a few things that I think will provide a hint of Valentines without causing my gag reflex. The goal is just to add a few things, not to create Christmas-level Valentine’s decor. Also, you have to store this stuff, so I ruled out things like pillows though there were some cute ones. I am even going to attempt another simple DIY after my success with the faux fir Christmas Trees and the half wreath – more on that soon.
For now, here are my small Valentine’s touches that add a bit of whimsy and color and some links to items (click picture for more details) that you might want to consider. Sharing this early because shipping takes time and I want to make sure you have time to decorate and enjoy.

The faux pincushion stems from JOANN are soooo good and the price is amazing – they are my favorite touch if you just want to add one subtle thing.
The dish towels below are special because they are from my Mom who passed away from pancreatic cancer quickly last January. I am still waiting on the last towel below to arrive which will be added to the powder room.
The beaded heart is from Etsy which supports very small businesses and is something that I am trying to do more of. The white ornaments are repurposed from my Christmas decor and will likely continue to be featured with future holiday colors.

Don’t judge, but I have already purchased some green ornaments for the bowl for St. Patrick’s Day which is certainly a holiday that I have never decorated for. I suspect that there will be many new holidays that I decorate for this year. It is fun to add these little touches that make my home feel so alive.
