Spring sprung almost 2 months ago, and it is now quite nice outside in most areas in the United States. It is the perfect time to get your BBQ on and spend as much time as you can outside catching a few rays, which generally improves my mood. One of my favorite things to do is garden and even if you do not have a yard, there is one type of gardening that is usually possible – outdoor planters.
I love wandering the isles at the local nursery to see what colors or shapes catch my eye. While they generally have some already planted options that you can go with – takes away the fun of picking out a great planter and filling it with stuff that you love. It is not a bad idea to see what plant combos the nursey is using as you generally want to do with a filler, thriller, and a spiller to have the best overall balance. A thriller is usually a larger plant, the filler will spread and fill in the gaps and a spiller is a trailing plant that will fall over the side.
Below are the pots that I filled last July at my house after the termite tenting killed the previous residents. I was not too sad because they were boxwoods, and I am having fun transitioning my landscaping to succulents now that we live in California. In my pots I have a blue glow agave as the thriller, some Calindrinia Grandiflora as the spiller they are going crazy), and some assorted echeveria as the filler. Luckily for me, these pots came with the house and they are huge! I recently purchased some additional pots for the front yard and am looking forward to getting them filled as soon as the Office renovation fence goes down which is supposed to be this week.

Here are some planter options if you are looking to spruce up your outdoors! You should also check out my post HERE on hanging planters which I have really been enjoying the past couple of months!
