Natural Beauty – Wood Kitchen Cabinets

Source: Andrea West Design

Natural wood cabinetry is back in a FANTASTIC  way! I have the kitchen above saved in my dream home Pinterest file – it is perfection. Many who lived through the 90s hear wood kitchen cabinets and think orangey oak or dark red cherry wood like below. Nope, that is not what we are talking about today. While the kitchen below is a perfectly nice kitchen, it is quite rustic and dated by the orange tone and wood grain. The next kitchen shows how natural wood is being used in very modern design today.

Today’s wood cabinets are modern, sleek, and sophisticated — and a sure-fire way to create a warm, inviting look in the heart of your home. Kitchens with natural wood cabinets are sometimes referred to as rustic modern to reflect the use of natural materials, but in reality, the style of kitchen really has more to do with the accessories such as the lighting, hardware, and backsplash.

Even though I love the natural wood, I would not get too carried away and do a whole kitchen in natural wood unless you can make it look as good as the kitchen below. Generally, all wood tone cabinets fall flat like an all-white kitchen does – check out the post HERE if you are thinking about an all-white kitchen.

Great kitchens with natural wood cabinets also have a few other things in common such as:

  • Lighter wood tones and less grain – bye-bye Orange
  • Statement pendant lights
  • Painted perimeter cabinets – all wood is boring like all white and tends to go country quickly
  • Quartz countertops – out with that old speckled granite that is so wonderful at hiding crumbs and in with more sleek quartz (usually white) which compliments the natural wood but still brings a more modern edge to the design
  • Streamline cabinet design – no frilly details in the form of island posts and most doors are either shaker or even flat for an even more modern style
  • Black hardware – black hardware adds a modern edge to the raw wood and looks great on all colors of painted cabinets

Here are a few more inspirational kitchens that you should see if you want to add some natural wood to the kitchen of your dreams.
