If the title seemed a bit familiar, it is because I borrowed a line from the song Black Velvet by Alannah Myles but substituted green velvet which is what I am talking about today. Maybe it is because it is the beginning of Spring, or perhaps it is because I am craving more color in my life, but velvet green furniture is really catching my eye. It is a such a rich color and that brings a depth a cozy comfort to a room.
Green velvet is sophisticated, a little bit retro and has a very luxurious look. It coordinates well with other rich jewel tones, cognac leather (something else I am really liking right now) or can be a showstopper in a room with mostly neutrals fitting in equally well with tan or grey tones as goes especially well with brass objects.
You do not need to have southern style for green velvet to work as shown below. You can go all in with a sofa, or mostly in with a chair(s) and then add a few matching accessories such as pillows or curtains to tie the look together.
Sofa
Here are a couple examples where people are all in with a green velvet sofa. While it sounds like it would be overwhelming, it actually adds a fresh splash of nature in each of these rooms. I love the paring with the brass chandelier which is not something I would naturally gravitate to in the first living room! The moody blue (Restless Sea by Behr) wall in the second living room is the star and the artwork and brass accents once again help tie it all together.
If you are not ready to commit to a velvet green sofa, but you still love the look, an accent chair or even dining chairs, may be the way to go. The first dining room has a great mix with a rustic table, crisp white walls, formal moldings, and a modern, rustic pendant. Look how the chairs really draw out the green from the plant and vise versa.

Finally, if you just want to dip your toe into the sea of green velvet, a bench may be the right fit. These benches would look great in an entry or at the foot of the bed. Some even have the added bonus of providing extra storage which is great for linens.
Hmm it looks like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so
I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to
the whole thing. Do you have any tips for newbie blog writers?
Hi, sorry I missed this until now. Glad you are enjoying the bog – it is a real labor of love. The technology was the biggest hurdle – once I figured out how to build the site and get things to look like I wanted, it is just about keeping up with writing and sharing the inspiration. Good luck to you!
