If you have been following along, you know that I have been obsessed with Christmas trees for holiday décor this year – there are lots of great options in this post HERE. I decided to try my hand at a DIY project which is often a recipe for disaster and disappointment. Not so here, these trees only require a few supplies, a couple of minutes and BOOM, there really is no way to fail. I love how these look grouped together on my piano!
Supplies:
Cardboard cones
I purchased on Amazon HERE – these can be a bit pricy and some people make cones with poster board use a styrofoam cone which requires a switch to regular glue.
Hot Glue Gun (regular glue can work but may be messy)
Yarn
I bought ropy yarn HERE and furry yarn HERE on Amazon but think it is also available on JOANNs which you also know I love if you saw this POST. You can also just cruise the yarn aisle and see what other fun large yarn or rope is available. Just buy 1 skein – I bought too much which did not help with the cost factor.
Scissors
Instructions:
Hot glue the end of the yarn to the tip or inside the tip of the cone, let it dry, and start wrapping. I added a line of glue horizontally down the cone as I wrapped it to keep the yarn snug. Glue the end to the bottom underneath. BOOM, you are done. That’s it – seriously!
Below are some more examples to give you some inspiration. You can also check out Etsy where there are lots of yarn trees for sale but I really recommend just looking for inspiration as they really are very simple and satisfying to make.
