Once upon a time, an electrician came to my house to install some lights and he looked at the old light and said, “ah yes, the old boob light.” Not a fairy tale, real life. He did not even blush and I thought it was the most accurate, and hilarious description ever. If you do not know what light he was referring to, see below.
If you have these in your house, you need to change them out yesterday. Even if you do not have boob lights, lighting is one of the easiest and cheapest ways (many flush mount options under $200) to update your home. I am always shocked at how many people keep the builder basics!

Flush mount lights are definitely less sexy than pendants or chandeliers but they work well in rooms with lower 8’ ceilings like bedrooms and laundry rooms. They generally have 1-4 lights and unless you are going to use multiple lights, you should select one with at least 3 lights for a bedroom.
Below is a selection of my favorite flush mount lights that have at least 3 bulbs. Many come in multiple finishes so click away if you are interested in a different finish. Many are drum-shaped which is one of my favorite profiles but some of the fun shapes like the stars would be great in kids’ bedrooms. The gold star is about as glam as I get.
I would choose something larger for a master bedroom and will put something together on that in the future. Of course, you can also go with a ceiling fan as we did though I still mourn the dream light which is now available in a flush mount half-circle capiz shell which is the most boob-like below. What about you, which is your favorite?
